Authorities have identified the woman who tragically lost her life while walking on a sidewalk in Salt Lake City on Wednesday. The incident occurred shortly before noon in the East Central neighborhood, close to 740 South and 700 East, as per an update from the Salt Lake City Police Department released on October 3.
Lacee Kelly, aged 46, was walking along the sidewalk when a northbound vehicle on 700 East veered out of control. The vehicle collided with a parked car, which was then pushed into Kelly, trapping her between the car and a nearby fence. Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, but she was pronounced dead shortly after.
Further investigation revealed that the driver, a 57-year-old man, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel before losing control of the vehicle. Officials noted that there were no indications of impairment, and the driver has been cooperative throughout the investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this tragic event.
The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Team of the Salt Lake City Police Department is handling the ongoing investigation, and they have stated that no further details are available at this time.
