A tragic incident on I-75 South in Atlanta resulted in the death of 24-year-old McKayla Harshaw during a seven-car pileup on Friday. Harshaw was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla driven by her boyfriend when the crash occurred, just two days before her 25th birthday.
The collision began when a Pontiac stalled in the southbound lanes, causing traffic to slow abruptly and triggering a series of accidents. As vehicles struggled to navigate around the disabled car, two Freightliner utility trucks collided with a Ford Transit van, which subsequently struck a Hyundai sedan, a Toyota Corolla, and an Audi A4.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., state troopers responded to the scene near Howell Mill Road. The impact from the trucks caused Harshaw’s Corolla to flip over, resulting in her fatal injuries. The other six individuals involved in the crash were transported to the hospital for treatment.
Emergency responders worked at the scene for more than four hours to investigate the crash, which shut down all southbound lanes of I-75 and disrupted major transportation routes during recovery efforts related to Hurricane Helene. Harshaw’s family created a GoFundMe page to assist with her funeral expenses, noting that she did not have life insurance. They described her as “a beautiful, thriving young woman with her entire life ahead of her.”
