In Omaha, Nebraska, 89-year-old Walter Tighe tragically lost his life after being struck by a pickup truck while walking to church on the morning of October 1. According to police, Tighe was crossing the street around 7:30 a.m. when a silver truck hit him and subsequently fled the scene.
Tighe’s family revealed that he had stopped driving in 2018 and enjoyed walking, maintaining an active lifestyle by covering up to four miles daily. Officials have located a truck believed to be involved in the incident, identified as a 2007 to 2012 silver Chevy Silverado, but the driver remains unidentified.
Kassie Tighe, Walter’s granddaughter, expressed her heartbreak, stating she would forever dwell on the fact that someone took a life and didn’t stop to help. Tighe was remembered as a loving grandfather who spread kindness throughout his life. Authorities are urging anyone with information to reach out to the Omaha Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
