Fatal Waterville shooting death of Stephen Killam – Obituary.
Authorities have charged Richard Hatt, 53, from Clinton, Maine, with the murder of 47-year-old Stephen Killam, a resident of Fairfield, after a fatal shooting outside the Mount Joseph nursing home in Waterville. Killam was found dead inside a vehicle in the parking lot on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, shortly after 6:30 a.m., following multiple gunshots.
Witnesses provided police with a description and license plate number of a black Chevrolet Colorado seen leaving the scene. Clinton police later apprehended Hatt and detained him on murder charges. The two men were known to each other, according to authorities.
Hatt made his initial court appearance via Zoom at the Capital Judicial Center, where he remains held without bail. An autopsy for Killam is scheduled, and the investigation continues. Local schools briefly implemented a lockout as a precaution but resumed normal activities after the situation was resolved.
