Desmund Moore, 42, was killed following a high-speed chase and shootout with police on Wednesday in Mount Airy, North Carolina. This incident unfolded after Moore was identified as the suspect in the shooting deaths of two window cleaners in Hope Mills.
The confrontation occurred around 3:30 p.m. between Paisley Drive and Beasley Road, where police shot Moore, who did not survive the encounter. Tragically, a K-9 officer was also shot during the incident and died.
The deadly shooting that Moore is accused of took place in front of a large residence in Hope Mills, resulting in the deaths of 21-year-old Arthur Knight Acosta and 32-year-old Jefferson Taylor Duggins, both from Fayetteville. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, though they were unsure of the source.
Duggins and Acosta were at the scene for work-related duties when the incident occurred. The driver’s side window of their work truck was found shattered, and investigators located over ten evidence markers at the scene, which likely correspond to shell casings.
Authorities are still determining the relationship between Moore and the victims. Moore had a previous arrest in 2016 for serious charges involving a 22-year-old woman. At the time of the incident, he was last seen driving a white 2020 Volkswagen Passat.
