Katelyn Howard dies in fatal New Orleans shooting
Fatal New Orleans shooting death of Katelyn Howard – Obituary.
Katelyn Howard, a 25-year-old woman, was tragically shot and killed on Wednesday night in the Seabrook area of New Orleans. The incident occurred in the 6200 block of Bridgehampton Drive, where police arrested 35-year-old Eric Christopher Gentris in connection with the shooting.
Officers responded to the scene around 7:15 p.m. and found Howard with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the location. Shortly after identifying Gentris as a suspect, police located him in Scott, Louisiana, around 11:30 p.m. He was apprehended with a firearm and his daughter, who was unharmed.
Howard had previously sought help regarding Gentris, who had a history of domestic violence. In August, Gentris was arrested for breaking into her home, and Howard had obtained a protective order against him. Past incidents of violence were documented, including a situation in February 2022 where Howard was hospitalized due to injuries from Gentris.
District Attorney Jason Williams described Howard’s death as a “tragic incident” and urged the city to enhance resources for combating domestic violence. Gentris is currently awaiting transfer to the Orleans Justice Center to face charges related to Howard’s death.
