Authorities have confirmed the tragic death of Liam Payne, a former member of the popular band One Direction, who reportedly died after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. The 31-year-old’s body was discovered on Wednesday, prompting an immediate autopsy, the preliminary results of which were released on Thursday.
According to the Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue, initial findings indicated that Payne sustained multiple traumatic injuries resulting in both internal and external hemorrhage. The autopsy revealed 25 injuries consistent with a fall from a significant height, with head trauma severe enough to be fatal.
Forensic experts noted that there were no defensive wounds on the body, suggesting that there was no struggle prior to the fall. Furthermore, the circumstances surrounding the incident indicated that Payne may have fallen while in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.
Prior to the incident, local police were alerted to a disturbance involving an “aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol,” though it was not confirmed that this individual was Payne. He had previously spoken publicly about his struggles with addiction.
Payne, who gained fame as part of One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson, left a significant mark on the music industry. The band, formed in 2010 and disbanded in 2016, sold over 70 million records worldwide. Following the group’s breakup, Payne pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album “LP1” in 2019 and a recent single titled “Teardrops” earlier this year.
He is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear Grey Payne, born in 2017 to his former partner, Cheryl Cole. The music community mourns his loss, with tributes pouring in from fans and colleagues alike.
