Authorities have publicly named the officer involved in a deadly shooting that occurred earlier this month in Northwood, New Hampshire. On Thursday, the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office confirmed that Officer Nicholas Kane of the Northwood Police Department discharged his weapon during the incident on October 1, resulting in the death of 34-year-old Malcolm Burns.
Prior reports indicated that Kane sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the confrontation at a residence along Route 4, but his name was withheld pending the completion of a formal interview.
Police were dispatched to the location that day following a report of domestic violence involving Burns and his father. Upon entering the home, Officer Kane engaged in a physical altercation with Burns, which ultimately led to the fatal shooting.
An autopsy revealed that Burns died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen and was pronounced dead at the scene.
