Louisiana State Police have made several arrests and are searching for two individuals in connection with a hit-and-run that claimed the life of 39-year-old Amanda Courteaux from Gibson. The tragic crash occurred on September 29, 2024, when a Jeep Patriot crossed into the path of a Ford Focus on Louisiana Highway 182, resulting in a collision. Courteaux, who was a passenger in the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as Elmer Galeas-Canizales of Honduras, fled the scene, leaving behind the injured minor who was driving the Ford. State police believe Elmer was aided by several family members, including Miguel, Elvin, Doneyda Galeas-Canizales, and Emerson Parada-Amaya, all of whom have been charged with being accessories to vehicular homicide.
While several suspects have been arrested, authorities are still searching for Elmer and Elvin Galeas-Canizales, who are believed to be in Texas. Police urge anyone with information about their whereabouts to come forward.
