Francisco Julian Medina, a 34-year-old resident of Pocatello, has been identified as the victim of a fatal accident near Malad earlier this week. According to the Oneida County Coroner, Medina succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash, which was attributed to trauma.
Described in his obituary as the life of the party, Medina was known for his vivacious personality and ability to bring laughter to those around him. He enjoyed football, basketball, and fishing, but his greatest pride was his three-year-old son. The obituary states, “Francisco will forever be remembered for his infectious laughter, his love for his family, and the joy he brought to everyone around him.”
A GoFundMe page has been established to support Medina’s family during this difficult time, with $1,790 raised so far toward a goal of $7,000.
The accident occurred on Interstate 15 at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A 2004 GMC Sierra was traveling south when the driver, a 29-year-old man from Utah, reportedly veered off the right shoulder and over-corrected, causing the vehicle to roll across multiple lanes before coming to rest upside down in the median.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted to a hospital; his current condition remains unknown. Medina, the passenger, also not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The crash is still under investigation.
