Fatal Colleton County shooting death of Joseph Horan V – Obituary
A man identified as 32-year-old Joseph Horan V has died following an officer-involved shooting in Colleton County. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in a parking lot off Sniders Highway near a Best Western and Ruby Tuesday, according to the State Law Enforcement Division.
Local law enforcement responded to reports of a disturbance involving Horan, who was reportedly vandalizing vehicles by slashing tires and breaking windows. Upon arrival, deputies confronted Horan and asked him to drop a knife he was holding. When Horan refused to comply and allegedly attempted to attack a deputy, the officer discharged their weapon, resulting in Horan’s death at the scene.
The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office has requested an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave and has not yet been named.
