David Stephen Bass, a 36-year-old man from Boulder Creek, tragically lost his life in a crash on southbound State Route 9 near Two Bar Road on October 17. The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. when Bass failed to yield to the lights of a California State Parks Ranger attempting to conduct a traffic stop, leading to a brief pursuit.
For reasons still under investigation, Bass’s black 2014 Mazda 3 veered off the roadway and collided with a tree, causing significant injuries. Despite immediate medical assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary reports suggest that alcohol may have played a role in the crash, which is currently under further investigation by authorities.
