Fatal Tennessee shooting death of Ellie Young – Obituary
Ellie Young, a 22-year-old student, was tragically shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend on Saturday, October 19, at Shelby Farms in Tennessee. According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 12:15 p.m., where they found Young deceased.
Her ex-boyfriend, Jackson Hopper, has been charged with murder in connection to the incident. Young was attending the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and friends described her as “walking sunshine” on a GoFundMe page set up in her memory.
Just before the shooting, Young had volunteered at a breast cancer awareness event in the park. Following the incident, Hopper allegedly attempted to run over a deputy during a high-speed chase across multiple counties before being arrested and taken for evaluation at an emergency room.
The Shelby County District Attorney’s Office has requested that no bond be set for Hopper prior to a hearing scheduled for October 28. District Attorney Steve Mulroy expressed his condolences, stating that Young’s death highlights the urgent need to combat domestic violence. The investigation is still ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help from the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or by texting “START” to 88788.
