Fatal Rochester crash death of J’la Jimenez – Obituary
J’la Jimenez, 20, of Gates, has been identified as the victim in a deadly crash that occurred last Friday in Rochester. The accident took place shortly before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Upper Falls Boulevard and Hudson Avenue, according to Capt. Greg Bello of the Rochester Police Department.
Jimenez, driving one of the two vehicles involved, was heading south on Hudson Avenue when she ran a red light. Her vehicle was struck by another car traveling west on Upper Falls Boulevard, which had the green light. The impact caused her car to overturn, ejecting her and her two passengers.
Jimenez was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her passengers, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries. The occupants of the second vehicle, both in their 20s, also sustained minor injuries and were treated at Rochester General Hospital.
There is no indication that alcohol or criminal activity played a role in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
J’la’s mother, Alina Jarrell, shared heartfelt tributes on social media, remembering her daughter as a kind-hearted person who always helped others. In a bittersweet moment, just days after the crash, Jarrell’s other daughter gave birth to a baby girl and named her J’la, in honor of her late aunt. An online fundraiser has been set up to assist with funeral expenses.
