Two teenagers arrested in connection to the death of Mustaffa Muhammad and a series of shootings in Charlotte
In Charlotte, law enforcement has arrested two teenagers linked to a series of shootings that resulted in one death and several injuries. The initial deadly shooting occurred around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, in the vicinity of the 3800 block of Statesville Avenue. The victim of this incident has been identified as 58-year-old Mustaffa Muhammad.
Within 48 hours following the violent spree that alarmed the community, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) arrested a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, despite having limited initial information. CMPD officials stated that these swift arrests reflect the commitment of their officers to ensure the safety of the Charlotte community.
Officers monitoring the area identified a suspicious vehicle connected to the initial shooting and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, a 16-year-old, was alone in the vehicle at the time. He was detained and taken to CMPD’s Law Enforcement Center for questioning, where detectives linked him to the shooting incidents.
During the investigation, officers discovered a firearm inside the vehicle, which was later confirmed to be stolen. They subsequently identified the second suspect as 18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz. Diaz was apprehended on Thursday morning, July 11, by CMPD’s Violent Crime Apprehension Team in collaboration with the FBI.
Diaz is set to face serious charges, including:
First-degree murder
Felony conspiracy to commit murder
Five counts of attempted murder
Two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle
Two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling
Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.
