A tragic hit-and-run incident in Astoria, Queens, has claimed the life of 36-year-old Amanda Servedio. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing moment when Servedio was struck by an SUV as she attempted to ride through the intersection of 37th and 34th Avenue.
Witnesses reported seeing a black SUV speed around the corner, disregarding the cyclist’s right of way. One onlooker described the moments leading up to the accident, recalling how Servedio had acknowledged her before the collision. “I looked back at her and she was hit,” the witness said, visibly shaken by the event.
Emergency services rushed Servedio to the hospital, but she did not survive her injuries.
The tragic events began with a burglary report on Crescent Street, just under a mile from where the crash occurred. Police had identified a black Dodge Ram truck with duct tape covering its license plate and attempted to engage the three individuals inside. However, instead of stopping, the suspects fled the scene, hitting two police cruisers in the process, resulting in minor injuries to the officers.
The pursuit of the truck led to the collision with Servedio minutes later. Following the crash, the driver did not stop, and witnesses noted the vehicle was traveling at high speed.
Despite the police pursuit, which was called off in accordance with strict guidelines, the suspects abandoned the truck a few blocks away and fled on foot. The vehicle in question has accumulated 90 violations since 2022, including several for school zones and red lights, and is registered to a Staten Island resident.
Authorities believe they have identified one of the suspects but have not yet apprehended him. The NYPD is urging anyone who may have seen the three individuals fleeing the scene to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously via the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline or website.
