Fatal Readfield pedestrian crash claims the life of Andrews Tolman – Obituary
Authorities have confirmed that Andrews Tolman, a town official from Readfield, Maine, died after falling in a roadway and being struck by a passing pickup truck.
The incident occurred just after 6:10 p.m. Tuesday near 759 Main St., where the Readfield Historical Society building is located. According to Maine State Police, Tolman, 76, was crossing Main Street after leaving the historical society when he stumbled and fell into the eastbound lane.
At that moment, a 2021 Dodge Ram 5500 traveling east struck Tolman, who was lying in the road. Police stated that the truck’s driver did not see him and that speed or alcohol were not suspected to be factors in the incident.
Eric Dyer, Readfield’s Town Manager, spoke highly of Tolman’s dedication to his community, noting that he held various important roles, including chairing the town’s Budget and Cemetery Committees, serving on the board of the Readfield Historical Society, acting as treasurer of the 30-Mile River Association, and being involved in the Open Space Working Group.
“Andy was one of our most active volunteers, serving in numerous roles with unmatched dedication,” Dyer stated in an email to Maine’s Total Coverage. “He was generous, sincere, humble, and patient—a truly extraordinary person whose commitment to Readfield was profound. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time, and we remain grateful for the contributions he made to our community.”
Maine State Police reported that the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
