Emily Sanchez-Ramirez dies in fatal Nashville hit-and-run
Fatal Nashville hit-and-run death of Emily Sanchez-Ramirez – Obituary.
Metro Nashville police reported the tragic death of 10-year-old Emily Sanchez-Ramirez, who was killed in a hit-and-run on October 5 while riding an electric scooter with her mother in a bike lane on Nolensville Pike. Emily’s mother, 28-year-old Laura Ramirez-Gonzalez, remains hospitalized in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Authorities have identified Walter Daneris Zuniga, 39, as the driver involved. Zuniga’s nephew, 29-year-old Orlin Argueta-Zuniga, admitted to assisting him in fleeing to Mexico. Argueta-Zuniga reportedly told police that Zuniga had hidden the vehicle and that he then helped him obtain his last paycheck, drove him to Atlanta, and bought a bus ticket to Texas.
Argueta-Zuniga has been arrested and faces charges of accessory after the fact and false reporting to hinder the investigation. He is currently held on a $7,500 bond. Efforts to locate and extradite Zuniga to the U.S. are ongoing.
