The McHenry County Coroner has identified 33-year-old Jonathan Warner as the victim of a tragic jet ski accident on the Fox River near McHenry. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, October 22, when Warner reportedly crashed into an unknown object, leading to a significant rescue response from local fire departments.
Following the crash, Warner was thrown into the water and was reported missing after an overturned jet ski was spotted on the river. A second jet skier, who was riding alongside him, managed to reach the shore and declined medical assistance. Fire crews from several nearby districts, including Cary, McHenry, and Wauconda, were called to aid in the search efforts, which also involved divers and sonar equipment.
Warner’s body was discovered shortly after 3 p.m. in the vicinity of his jet ski, with the autopsy revealing blunt force trauma to the head as the cause of death. He was traveling south on the Fox River at the time of the accident, likely having struck a pillar of Burton’s Bridge. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident, with toxicology results pending.
