Julie Billeter dies in fatal Tucson hit-and-run
Fatal Tucson hit-and-run death of Julie Billeter – Obituary
A tragic hit-and-run incident in Tucson has resulted in the death of Julie Billeter, a 53-year-old woman. The accident occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, in the 5100 block of East Speedway Boulevard. Billeter was riding her bicycle when a vehicle struck her from behind.
Emergency responders from the Tucson Police Department and the Tucson Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported Billeter to St. Joseph’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries on October 21, as confirmed by the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner.
Investigators have determined that Billeter was traveling eastbound in the bike lane when she made a turn directly in front of the vehicle. The driver did not stop after the collision and fled the scene. While Billeter’s failure to turn safely was cited as a contributing factor, the investigation is primarily focused on the driver’s decision to leave.
As of now, no citations or charges have been issued, and the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them or call 88-CRIME anonymously.
