A tragic car accident in Salado has resulted in the death of 49-year-old Kimberly Kosh-Ruiz, an elementary school teacher, while her 9-year-old son remains hospitalized. The incident occurred on October 23, 2024, at around 5:18 p.m., as reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Kosh-Ruiz, who taught second grade at Thomas Arnold Elementary School, sustained severe injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Her son, Grant, who is a fourth grader at the same school, was in the vehicle with her and is currently recovering.
The collision took place on Thomas Arnold Road, where Kosh-Ruiz’s 2017 Honda Accord was traveling westbound and a 1988 Ford pickup truck was heading eastbound. Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the vehicles failed to yield half of the roadway, resulting in the crash. The driver of the Ford, a 26-year-old man from Salado, was also taken to the hospital for non-incapacitating injuries.
Dr. Michael Novotny, the superintendent of Salado ISD, expressed his condolences to the school community and announced the availability of counseling services for those affected by the loss. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the next of kin have been notified.
