A devastating accident occurred on Interstate 24 in Murfreesboro on October 17, 2024, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to three others. The incident involved a Chevrolet Express van that overturned after losing control. Responding to the scene, the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) discovered several occupants trapped inside the vehicle. Unfortunately, despite their rescue efforts, five people were pronounced dead, while three survivors were transported to a local hospital.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the van was navigating through Rutherford County when the 21-year-old driver, Pham Tan Hoang from Georgia, lost control around 1:00 AM. The vehicle veered off the roadway, crashed into an embankment, and struck the Highway 96 (Franklin Road) bridge before rolling back down and coming to rest behind a guardrail.
The four passengers who perished along with Hoang were identified as 27-year-old Alaniz Baido, 65-year-old William Bolia, 57-year-old Pham Hung Van, and 29-year-old Kong Adam Bebe. Firefighters undertook a difficult extrication operation to free the trapped individuals. It remains unclear whether the driver and passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Authorities temporarily closed Interstate 24 while police and emergency responders managed traffic and secured the area. The THP confirmed that no charges would be filed in connection with the incident, and it appears that the van was the sole vehicle involved in this tragic event.
