Police have confirmed that Eli Newton, a 16-year-old, was the victim of a fatal shooting that took place inside a Kansas City business on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at East 36th Street and Indiana Avenue, where officers were called to respond to reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers initially found an individual believed to be an adult male with gunshot wounds inside the store, later identified as Eli Newton. Despite efforts by officers and emergency responders to administer aid, Newton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another individual, an adult male, was also injured in the shooting and was transported to the hospital, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators suspect the shooting may have been triggered by an altercation inside the store, though details about the dispute have not been provided.
