Fatal Pemberton Township shooting death of Marvin Taylor – Obituary
Marvin Taylor, a 57-year-old resident of Browns Mills, was identified as the individual killed on Saturday during an encounter with police in Pemberton Township. Police responded around 3:20 p.m. to reports of smoke near a Woodland Avenue residence, where they found Taylor reportedly holding a gun in the backyard, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Positioning themselves in a wooded area behind the property, officers instructed Taylor to put down his weapon. During a subsequent exchange of gunfire, Officer Kyle McQueen shot Taylor. Authorities recovered a firearm close to Taylor at the scene. No injuries to officers or other individuals were reported.
Emergency responders treated Taylor on-site, and he was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he passed away around 5:35 p.m.
State law mandates an investigation into any fatalities involving law enforcement officers in their official roles. The Attorney General’s Office noted that the investigation remains active, with no additional details available at this time.
