Peckham’s family is heartbroken, with her daughter, Breauna Dorris, sharing on a verified GoFundMe that they had anticipated more time with her. She described their grief as overwhelming and has requested donations to cover funeral costs, as Peckham had no arrangements in place.
Local resident Jennifer Dean reported that the sight of the large alligator was unusual for the area. Shortly after gathering onlookers noticed the animal, gunshots were heard, indicating the alligator had been put down. Witness JaMarcus Bullard shared that he had observed the alligator with a body in its mouth and captured video footage.
Officials from the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that the gator, measuring over 13 feet, was humanely euthanized at the scene to ensure public safety.
