An arrest has been made in connection with the shooting that occurred during the homecoming football game at St. Martinville High School. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Zackyric Gardner from St. Martinville, has been charged with Second Degree Murder. According to St. Martinville Police Chief Rickey Martin, authorities issued an arrest warrant and coordinated with agencies along the I-10 Corridor to locate Gardner.
He was apprehended as a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped in Texas and is set to be returned to St. Martin Parish, where he will be booked into the local jail. Gardner’s bond has been set at an extraordinary $10 million, reflecting the community’s commitment to combating violence, particularly at school events.
Police confirmed that the shooting, which resulted in one fatality, occurred before the game’s kickoff.
