A tragic incident occurred at Nautical Ventures Marina in Dania Beach, Florida, where Benjamin, a technician, lost his life during a boat refueling operation. The explosion happened around 4:30 p.m. on Friday when a 50-foot vessel unexpectedly ignited after being delivered to the marina, located near Ravenswood Road and Interstate 95.
Witnesses described a loud explosion that shook windows nearby, and cell phone footage captured thick black smoke billowing into the sky. Marina employees reported that Benjamin had worked there for several years and was originally from Paraguay. They mentioned his passion for boating and described him as a dedicated worker.
During the incident, four other employees were also injured and taken to local hospitals, where they are currently in critical condition. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue officials stated that an ignition source during the refueling process likely caused the explosion. The vessel was on a trailer and was scheduled for presentation at an upcoming boat show.
The marina remains secured by deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office while investigations continue. Firefighters quickly responded to extinguish the flames and assist the injured.
