Fatal Geelong stabbing incident claims the life of Jayme Sykes – Obituary

The 20-year-old Jayme “Chugs” Sykes from Corio was fatally stabbed early Sunday morning in Geelong. Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing on Little Malop Street around 5:30 a.m., where they discovered Sykes suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, which is believed to involve at least two other men who later sought treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at the same hospital.

Family and friends have shared heartfelt tributes, with one relative expressing love for Sykes on Instagram, stating, “I’ll love you forever mate. I love you brother.” A friend remembered him as someone who “lit up every room,” adding, “RIP Chugs, gone too soon.”

Reports indicate that Sykes was involved in a confrontation outside a nightclub, where an argument escalated into violence. A Sunrise reporter described him as a “friendly giant” enjoying a night out with friends when the tragic event occurred. Police have questioned the two men who presented at the hospital but have not confirmed if they are considered suspects or if there are additional individuals they are seeking in connection with the investigation, which highlights an ongoing issue of knife violence in Victoria.
