Kevin Taylor, a longtime AutoZone employee and father of three, passed away from critical injuries following a hit-and-run accident in Northeast Philadelphia’s Port Richmond neighborhood. Taylor, remembered by his family as a “gentle giant,” was at work early last Sunday, delivering auto parts when the collision happened, hoping to return home in time to watch the Philadelphia Eagles game.
The incident occurred when a group of juveniles in a black Dodge Ram allegedly ran a red light at Richmond and Venango Streets, crashing at high speed into Taylor’s vehicle. The impact not only critically injured Taylor but also caused a chain reaction that damaged at least five other cars. Taylor was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries four days later.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows three of the juveniles fleeing the scene in an SUV that was following the Dodge Ram. Taylor’s family, heartbroken by the tragedy, is now seeking justice and urging those involved to come forward. His sister, Shante Thompson, expressed the family’s grief, emphasizing Taylor’s kindness and the unfairness of the incident.
Taylor’s brother, Dennis Thompson, echoed this, calling for the suspects to do the right thing and turn themselves in. While no arrests have been made, authorities are investigating if the Dodge Ram involved was stolen. In the midst of their grief, Taylor’s family finds some solace in knowing that, as an organ donor, part of his legacy will live on through others.
The community has rallied to support the family by raising funds to cover funeral expenses as they prepare to say goodbye to their beloved Kevin.
