Fatal Springfield Township shooting death of Brian Cofer – Obituary
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that 39-year-old Brian Cofer of Akron was fatally shot at a Halloween gathering in Springfield Township early Sunday morning. Authorities responded to a shooting report around 12:15 a.m. on the 1400 block of Canton Road, where they discovered Cofer with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Another individual at the scene was also injured in an assault and is currently hospitalized. The case remains under investigation.

In a separate incident, 44-year-old Marla Carter of Akron was found shot in the Summit Lake area late Sunday night. Responding officers arrived at the 300 block of East South Street at approximately 11:52 p.m. and attempted to revive Carter, who was found unresponsive with gunshot injuries. Despite CPR efforts, she was declared dead at 12:20 a.m. Monday. Nearby, investigators located shell casings and observed that a parked vehicle had also been struck. Authorities continue to search for leads in Carter’s case.
