A tragic head-on collision on Highway 25 near the border of Santa Clara and San Benito counties has claimed the lives of two individuals. The victims have been identified as 24-year-old Erick Javier Andrade from Gilroy and 35-year-old Priscilla Paulina Jones from Hollister.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of the accident shortly after 12:30 a.m. on October 28. Upon arrival, officers discovered two vehicles obstructing the roadway, with both drivers unresponsive. According to the preliminary investigation, Andrade was operating a 2018 Nissan Sentra southbound on Highway 25, while Jones was driving a 2012 Dodge Charger in the opposite direction. For reasons not yet determined, Andrade’s vehicle veered into the northbound lane, leading to a direct collision with Jones’s car, resulting in fatal injuries for both drivers. They were pronounced dead at the scene, and there were no other passengers in either vehicle.
Jones, who served as a 911 dispatcher for Santa Clara County for over seven years, was also a co-owner of Mmm Churros in Hollister and a devoted mother of three. Colleagues remembered her as a compassionate professional who brought laughter to her workplace.
In response to the tragedy, local resident Erica Morton has initiated an online petition advocating for immediate safety enhancements on Highway 25, highlighting its history of accidents. The petition calls for the installation of barriers and K-rails to prevent future incidents.
Efforts to expand Highway 25 have been discussed, but a timeline for the project remains unspecified. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the collision to contact the CHP Hollister-Gilroy office.
