Fatal Nangwarry crash death of Isaac Eykelenburg – Obituary
Isaac Eykelenburg, aged five, has been identified as one of the two children who tragically lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident in Nangwarry, South Australia. The incident occurred on the Riddoch Highway around 2:40 PM on Sunday when their father, Chris Eykelenburg, braked to avoid a collision with a Holden sedan that had struck an emu. Their vehicle was then rear-ended by a Nissan ute.
Isaac died at the scene, while his 15-year-old sister, Keziah Eykelenburg, was critically injured and subsequently flown to Royal Adelaide Hospital, where she passed away overnight surrounded by family.
The driver of the Holden, a woman, was unharmed, as was the 22-year-old Nissan driver from Mount Gambier, who was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and four counts of causing harm by dangerous driving. He was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Keziah’s school described her as a respectful and kind student, and an online fundraiser for the family has raised over $68,000 in response to this tragic event.
