On early Sunday morning, a deadly altercation broke out outside a club on South Staples Street in Corpus Christi. Police arrived at the scene around 2:37 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire, where they found 29-year-old Jerry Encinia and 20-year-old Jakobe McDonald fatally shot.
According to Senior Officer Antonio Contreras, the incident began as an argument between two groups in the club’s parking lot. Tensions escalated when a member of one group drew a firearm, prompting someone from the opposing side to also pull a gun, resulting in the fatal shootings of Encinia and McDonald. Additionally, two other men sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Investigators believe the incident was targeted rather than random. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives urge anyone present at the club during the time of the shooting to contact them at 361-886-2840 with information or video evidence that could assist in the case.
