Fatal Charlotte crash death of Gregory Matthew Thompson – Obituary
A tragic accident on Freedom Drive in west Charlotte claimed the life of Gregory Matthew Thompson, a 67-year-old man, along with another victim. The incident occurred on October 30, 2024, around 8 a.m., involving a 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage and a 2010 Dodge Challenger.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Thompson was making a U-turn when the Dodge, driven by Tajarvis Deonte Wall, collided with the Mitsubishi. Both Thompson and a passenger, 70-year-old Connie Lee Yates, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that excessive speed was a significant factor in the crash. Wall and a juvenile passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital. All individuals involved were reported to have been wearing seatbelts.
Wall is facing multiple charges, including two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle, as well as additional traffic violations. Toxicology results are pending, and charges will be formally filed once he is released from the hospital. Anyone with information regarding the crash is encouraged to contact Charlotte Crime Stoppers.
