Fatal Bayonne incident death of Juan Poche – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed the identity of a 44-year-old Bayonne man who died following a police encounter. According to the state Attorney General’s Office, the incident took place early on Monday, September 16, when police responded to an apartment on Broadway after a 911 caller reported loud screaming from within.

 

Upon arrival, officers heard yelling from the apartment and encountered the individual responsible for the commotion, later identified as Juan Poche. Medical assistance was requested for Poche, who was restrained for his own safety, allowing emergency personnel to transport him to Bayonne Medical Center. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead there at 8:44 a.m.

 

The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation. State law mandates that the Attorney General’s Office investigate any death occurring during interactions with law enforcement or while the individual is in custody. Findings from these investigations are submitted to a grand jury to ascertain whether an indictment is warranted against any involved officers.

 

The investigation remains active.
