Fatal Milwaukee shooting death of Marquell Newburn – Obituary

A tragic incident in Milwaukee has resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy, Marquell Newburn. A 15-year-old named Deondre Davis has been charged as an adult with first-degree reckless homicide following the shooting that occurred near 48th and Clarke streets on Saturday afternoon.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Newburn unresponsive inside a stolen maroon Kia Sedona and he was pronounced dead shortly after at a nearby hospital. Court documents indicate that witnesses reported Davis was playing with a firearm inside the vehicle when he pointed it at Newburn, despite Newburn’s plea for him to stop. The gun discharged, fatally striking the young boy.

Following the incident, authorities discovered Davis hiding in a nearby residence under a false identity, and he was subsequently taken into custody. He faces serious charges that could result in a lengthy prison sentence, and his admission to knowing the risks of pointing a firearm has raised concerns about the normalization of such reckless behavior among youth. Newburn’s family has initiated a fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses.
