Fatal Columbus Far West Side shooting death of Martin Valdivia – Obituary

Martin Valdivia, 37, was shot and killed late Wednesday night at an apartment complex on Columbus’ Far West Side. The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. on the 5600 block of Cabot Cove Drive. Police responded after receiving calls reporting gunfire, as well as reports of a person found lying on the ground with gunshot wounds.

 

Upon arrival, officers discovered Valdivia outside an apartment building. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene at 11:42 p.m.

 

Homicide detectives have charged Jose D. Guzman Castaneda, 36, with murder, alleging he shot Valdivia following an altercation at the Cabot Cove Apartments. Police apprehended Castaneda nearby and recovered a firearm at the scene, though it’s uncertain if it was the weapon used in the shooting.
