Fatal Skokie hit-and-run crash death of Alfred Slivo – Obituary

Authorities have identified 78-year-old Alfred Slivo, a resident of Skokie, as the pedestrian who lost his life in a hit-and-run incident on Sunday afternoon. The tragic accident occurred around 3:50 p.m. near the intersection of North Crawford Avenue and Kirk Street, where Slivo was crossing the road when a dark-colored vehicle struck him and fled the scene.

Slivo was a devoted family man, described by his son as a “man of God” and a proud father and grandfather. He was reportedly on his way to his sister’s house, a route he frequently took. Following the crash, Skokie police, along with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force and the Major Crash Assistance Team, initiated an investigation into the incident, which resulted in the closure of Crawford Avenue for several hours as they collected evidence.

Residents expressed their shock and sorrow over the event, with one neighbor noting the significant police presence at the scene and lamenting the loss, saying that perhaps Slivo might have had a chance if the driver had stopped to assist. A small memorial of flowers has been left at the site of the crash, with community members calling for justice in the case. As of now, police have not released further details about the investigation.
