Fatal San Francisco pedestrian crash death of Jonathan Chase Johnson – Obituary

The staff at Zeitgeist, a well-known bar in the Mission District, are grieving the loss of one of their own after a pedestrian fatality occurred on Geary Boulevard on Friday morning. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Jonathan Chase Johnson, was reportedly on his way to Kaiser Medical Center when the tragic incident took place.

Details surrounding the crash remain limited. Initial reports suggested a motorcycle crash, but it has since been clarified that Johnson was walking when he was struck by a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Geary, between Broderick and Divisadero. An SUV at the scene showed evidence of a collision, including a broken headlight, while three Waymo vehicles were observed parked behind the crash site, though it’s unclear if they were involved.

This incident marks the 21st pedestrian death in San Francisco this year. Following the news of Johnson’s passing, Zeitgeist closed unexpectedly, prompting staff to inform patrons of the situation with tears. A small memorial has since been set up at the bar’s entrance, reflecting the impact of this loss on the community.

The bar was expected to reopen on Monday, as the investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues.
