Fatal Jamestown Bridge motorcycle crash death of Jonathan Hopkins – Obituary
A motorcyclist has succumbed to his injuries following a high-speed collision on the Jamestown Bridge in Rhode Island. The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Jonathan Hopkins from South Kingstown, Rhode Island.
According to Rhode Island State Police, troopers were called to the scene of the accident on Route 138 east at around 3:35 p.m. Thursday. They discovered that a motorcycle and a Ford Transit van were involved in a crash that resulted in the motorcycle operator being rushed to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. His death was confirmed on Friday.
The crash caused significant traffic delays, with eastbound lanes on the bridge fully closed and one lane in the opposite direction also affected. Drivers were warned to anticipate lengthy hold-ups.
Authorities believe that Hopkins was exceeding the speed limit while maneuvering through traffic before colliding with the rear of the Ford van in the right lane, as reported by WJAR.
The van’s occupants, a 51-year-old man from New Bedford and a 48-year-old passenger, were unharmed in the incident, and no charges were expected against them, according to state police.
