Don Turner, 78, and his wife Terry, 74, tragically lost their lives in the recent floods that have devastated the Valencia region of Spain. Their daughter, Ruth O’Loughlin from Burntwood, Staffordshire, confirmed that the couple’s bodies were discovered in their car after the heavy rains led to catastrophic flooding in the area.
The Turners went missing after informing friends they were “popping out” for petrol, and it was only when friends checked on them that their absence was noted, leading to the discovery of their pets left at home. Their bodies were found in a town approximately 45 minutes from Valencia, adding to the toll of over 200 fatalities linked to the severe weather that has struck the region in the past week.
The mayor of Pedralba, Andoni Leon, reported that local volunteers located the couple’s remains over the weekend. They were among three British nationals confirmed deceased due to the flooding. Previously, a British man aged 71 died in a hospital after being rescued from his flooded home near Malaga.
The Turners had relocated to Spain about a decade ago, seeking a life in the sun, and their passing highlights the devastating impact of the floods that have affected countless lives in the region.
