The Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office has confirmed that Anthony Pierre Jr., 49, was shot and killed outside his residence in the 1600 block of Colony Road on Sunday night. Reports indicate that deputies from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office received calls regarding gunfire around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Colony Road and Camphor Street.
Pierre was shot in his own driveway, though the motive behind the attack and the identity of any suspects remain unknown. Witnesses in the neighborhood reported hearing two to four gunshots followed by screams.
Residents Louis and Cathy Shaw, who live nearby, expressed their shock at the incident, noting that gun violence is uncommon in their community. Cathy Shaw remarked on the fear instilled by such an event, saying, “Nobody knows what happens. We really don’t know anything, but yet it is scary that something like that can happen in your neighborhood.” Louis Shaw mentioned they received notifications of police activity through their Ring camera but did not anticipate that it would involve a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting is still active, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the sheriff’s office.
