Fatal Summit shooting death of Jaydin Bahena – Obituary
Jaydin Bahena, a 16-year-old resident of Summit, has tragically lost his life in what authorities are now calling a double homicide following a shooting on Friday night. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity after he was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Alongside Bahena, a 34-year-old man was also shot during the incident; however, his identity has yet to be released. Police were dispatched to Hanover and 73rd Avenue in Summit just before 10:30 p.m. on Friday after receiving reports of gunfire and a person injured.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Bahena with a potential gunshot wound. Emergency services were immediately called, and he was transported to the hospital, where he unfortunately passed away. Meanwhile, a second victim was found north of the initial scene, seated in a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds. He was also taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The investigation is ongoing, being conducted by the Summit Police Department in collaboration with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force. Authorities encourage anyone with information about the incident to reach out to the police or submit anonymous tips. Bahena’s family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral and memorial expenses.
