A 43-year-old man, Charles Ryan Alexander, was fatally shot by law enforcement on Monday evening following a high-speed chase and standoff after abducting his 7-year-old daughter earlier in the day. The girl, who had been taken from her home in Empire, Ohio, was safely recovered and returned to her family.
The abduction occurred after an argument between Alexander and the child’s custodial guardian. Authorities tracked Alexander, initially in a Ford F-150 before he switched to a U-Haul truck, which was located by Brunswick police. After attempting a traffic stop and a subsequent chase, Alexander pulled into a parking lot in Medina Township, where he engaged in negotiations with law enforcement. The situation escalated into an officer-involved shooting, resulting in Alexander’s death. The girl was unharmed and reunited with her family. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the incident.
