Evan Dunn dies in fatal Golden DUI crash

Fatal Golden DUI crash claims life of Evan Dunn – Obituary

GOLDEN, CO — Officer Evan Dunn of the Golden Police Department lost his life on Wednesday after being struck by a suspected drunk driver on Highway 58. The 33-year-old officer’s death has left family, friends, and colleagues devastated as they prepare to honor his life and legacy.

“Evan had a bright future and was destined for great things, and we will never fully recover from his loss,” shared Golden Police Chief Joe Harvey. Chief Harvey added that the department intends to continue their work in Dunn’s memory. Dunn, remembered as “loyal, steady, quiet, and observant,” is survived by his wife, Annalise, their dog, his parents, and two siblings. His family has asked for privacy during this time of grieving.

A private memorial service will be held at Mission Hills Church in Littleton on Wednesday, with the public invited to line the street to pay respects as Dunn’s body is transported to the church. Additionally, a memorial has been set up outside the Golden Police Department, and donations to support Dunn’s family are being accepted through the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation.

Dunn, a former Army aviation officer and Blackhawk helicopter pilot, also served as a captain in the Army National Guard. He joined Golden’s police force after a year in code enforcement, graduating from the academy in July, and was recently partnered with Officer Bethany Grusing as his field training officer. Tragically, both Dunn and Grusing were struck during the crash, along with two civilians. Dunn died at the scene, and authorities apprehended a suspect shortly after.

To honor Dunn’s memory, Governor Jared Polis has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on the day of his memorial service. The Golden Police Department and Dunn’s family have expressed gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support and kindness during this painful time.
