Fatal Lafollette UTV accident death of Josh Mefford – Obituary
LAFOLLETTE, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has identified the driver who tragically died in a UTV accident on November 9, 2024. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when Josh Mefford, 41, and his passenger, Rick Violes, 27, were driving on the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area from Highway 63. The UTV went off a 200-foot rock wall in the sand mines area. Mefford, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and killed, while Violes, who was secured, was knocked unconscious and seriously injured. Violes regained consciousness and called 911 around 3:30 a.m. He was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for treatment. The driver’s body was recovered later that morning. The incident remains under investigation.
