Sean Hayes, 38, of Burlington, Vermont, tragically died early Monday morning, November 11, 2024, after being struck by a Shelburne Police Department cruiser on Shelburne Road. The incident occurred at 2:45 a.m. when an off-duty officer, identified as Sgt. Kyle Kapitanski, was driving south on Fayette Drive. Hayes, who was riding a bicycle with a trailer, was hit in dark, rainy conditions on the wet roadway. Vermont State Police have taken over the investigation into the cause of the crash.
