James Ewing, 63, of Ocala, has died following a crash on North Pine Avenue near the Marion County Judicial Center on Sunday night. According to police, Ewing was attempting to cross the road from east to west when he was struck by a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 26-year-old woman from Jacksonville.
First responders performed CPR on Ewing at the scene before transporting him to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The crash occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. Authorities reported that the woman did not see the pedestrian until the last moment, and that the area has dimmed lighting, which could have contributed to the accident. Investigators have ruled out speed and impairment as factors in the crash, though the investigation is still ongoing.
