Fatal Mt. Hood National Forest hiking death of James Robert MacDonald – Obituary.
The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the death of 33-year-old James Robert MacDonald, an experienced hiker from Ridgefield. His body was found in the Mt. Hood National Forest following an extensive search operation near the Paradise Park Trail.
MacDonald was reported missing on November 6 after his family became concerned when he did not return from a planned day hike. The hiker, who was experienced but unprepared for overnight conditions, was last in contact around 2 p.m. that day. Search efforts began immediately, with teams from Clackamas County Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, and the Hood River Crag Rats assisting. Air support was provided by the Oregon National Guard and the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office.
The search for MacDonald continued into Friday, and his body was discovered by a PMR search team near the Hidden Lake Trail shortly before 10:30 a.m. Authorities do not suspect foul play in his death, but the cause is pending confirmation from the medical examiner.
