Fatal Lancaster County shooting death of Kimberly Day – Obituary.
The Lancaster County Coroner has identified Kimberly Day, 41, of Mount Joy, as the victim in a shooting last Friday morning that led to a police pursuit. Day was fatally wounded by gunshots to her chest and abdomen and was later pronounced dead at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital. Her death has been ruled a homicide.
State Police reported that around 4:15 a.m. on November 8, 22-year-old Ricky Shannon allegedly opened fire on four individuals, including Day, in an apartment located at 348 Sassafrass Terrace on Main Street in Mount Joy. Three others were injured but did not suffer life-threatening wounds.
Following the shooting, Shannon fled the scene in a red pickup truck. Police spotted his vehicle on SR322 and initiated a high-speed chase. Shannon reportedly drove recklessly, reaching speeds of 95 to 100 mph and causing multiple collisions before police executed a PIT maneuver to stop the truck in Dauphin County after a 40-minute pursuit. Authorities say Shannon then began shooting at officers through his windshield, prompting them to return fire, resulting in Shannon’s death. In Shannon’s vehicle, police found a deceased 19-year-old woman, believed to have been taken against her will. Officials have identified her as Day’s daughter.
Investigators are reviewing body camera and dashcam footage to determine if the 19-year-old had died before or during the police encounter. Police also noted that multiple Protection From Abuse orders had been previously filed in this case. Further details are pending as the investigation continues.
